TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Israeli regime made a grave mistake by declaring the elimination of Hamas as its objective in the war on Gaza, a Middle East political analyst said.

Seyed Jafar Razavi

Speaking to IQNA during a webinar on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Seyed Jafar Razavi added that the Tel Aviv regime has failed to achieve anything in its aggression on the Gaza Strip that began on October 7.

He said the Zionists made a big mistake by choosing an objective in this war that is not attainable, that is the elimination of the Hamas resistance movement.

Even former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak acknowledged this, saying even if all Hamas fighters in the Gaza Strip were to be eliminated, Israel could do nothing about the Hamas ideology, he noted.

Razavi added that Israel has also suffered heavy losses in military equipment during the aggression on Gaza, losing some 400 tanks and military vehicles so far.

Given this and the huge economic costs inflicted on Israel due to the war on Gaza, the Tel Aviv regime does not seem to be interested in continuing the war for a long time, he stated.

They key point here is that Israeli is in weak position but it uses psychological war and media war to mislead the public opinion.

That is why everyone must be vigilant not to be deceived by the Israeli regime, he went on to say.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Razavi underlined the Palestinian people’s right to struggle against the Israeli occupation.

According to the Geneva Conventions, the right to resistance is a legitimate right of every nation whose land is occupied, he said, adding one reason why European countries criticize the Zionist regime is that the Palestinians’ right to defend their land has been recognized in international laws.

Moreover, he stated, based on international laws the Zionist regime has no right to introduce any changes to the occupied areas, including al-Quds, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and that is why we see today that countries like Spain and Belgium sharply criticize the Israeli regime’s moves.

Asked about some humanitarian organizations’ belief that the Israeli regime has a right to self-defense, Razavi said they cite Israel’s UN membership to claim this whereas the fact is that even the regime’s membership in the UN has been conditional on determining the status of Palestinian refugees and the status of villages occupied by the Tel Aviv regime.

Some 75 years have passed since the occupation of Palestine and the Zionist regime has yet to fulfill these obligations, he noted, adding that its membership in the United Nations lacks legitimacy.

The “Israeli Terrorism and Failure of International Humanitarian Law” webinar was organized by the International Quran News Agency on Wednesday, the day marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

It was attended by a group of experts from different countries.

It featured speeches by Dr. Amiruddin Jahaf, the head of Yemen Human Rights Group, Iyad Abu Nasser, a former Palestinian prisoner from Gaza, Ali Al-Sahib, who heads the Baghdad Regional Studies Center, and Dr. Baqer Darwish, the president of the Bahrain Forum for Human Rights.

The speakers shared their views and experiences on the Israeli violations of human rights and international law in Palestine, particularly in the besieged Gaza Strip.

They also conferred on the role and responsibility of the international community and organizations in protecting the rights of oppressed people.

The aggression on Gaza was initiated by the Israeli regime on October 7 following an operation by the Palestinian resistance movements. Until last week’s truce, the war resulted in the deaths of over 15,500 individuals, predominantly women and children in the coastal area. However, Israel resumed the aggression shortly after the truce on Friday, resulting in the deaths of nearly 200 more people, with thousands feared buried under rubble.
